The Economic Development Department is seeking a grant-funded Business Development Coordinator to assist with the implementation of programs and projects focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be a flexible, detail oriented person that can work effectively with members of the public. Experience in entrepreneurial programs and/or innovation project management is highly desired. This function requires working in close cooperation with other departments, government agencies, higher education partners, community policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. The incumbent is responsible for implementing those strategies specific to innovation, as identified in the Economic Development Strategic Plan. Primary duties will include implementation of strategies within Goal 2: Become a Hub for Creative Businesses, such as working with potential innovation districts and work with partners to build on the dynamic environment that already exists in Fort Worth to further fuel high-growth businesses.

Job Requirements: 

The incumbent will:
Assist in the creation and implementation of programs to fuel high-growth companies;
Facilitate the establishment of a medical innovation district, as well as other potential innovation districts;
Build long term relationships and create strategic alliances with a variety of stakeholders to support and enhance innovation;
Track, promote, and report on the progress of the implementation of corresponding strategic plan goals;
Maintain an active role in the local entrepreneurship community and represent the City at external events related to entrepreneurship growth;
Aid Smart City efforts in partnership with other City of Fort Worth Departments;
Negotiate and manage contracts that support efforts to become a hub for creative businesses;
Plan, organize and conduct analyses related to the implementation of varied programs and projects;
Prepare a variety of periodic, progress and special reports.

In addition to the requirements stated above, the ideal candidate will possess the following additional characteristics, competencies and style:
Experience with innovation districts and/or initiatives
Experience with entrepreneurship best practices
Experience utilizing economic development incentive programs
Been a part of successful community building efforts in terms of forging strong partnerships and collaborative efforts with like-minded organizations to achieve clearly defined mission and goals
Possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels within the organization and with customers
Strong project management skills managing multiple projects, on budget and within established deadline
Ability to make sound business decisions to meet the needs of the customers and maintain performance goals
Utilize independent judgment and sound decision making
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
Ability to develop and deliver presentations
Have excellent speaking and writing skills
Understanding of principles, practices and techniques of economic development, marketing, and financing methods available to fuel high-growth businesses
Understanding of financial/statistical/comparative analysis techniques and formulae

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Urban and Regional Studies, Economic Development, or related field or comparable education/experience/training; with four years of experience in economic development, entrepreneurship, or innovation, or related field required ​
Prior leadership experience in a start-up, early-stage company or non-profit organization desired
Experience with Microsoft Office products necessary
Experience with Salesforce preferred
