PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (April 30, 2019) — The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) Board of Directors awarded a $100,000 challenge grant to the City of Pflugerville for construction of a new public plaza at the Feb. 20 regular meeting. Located on Main Street between City Hall and Hanovers Draught Haus, the plaza runs from Main Street to Walnut Avenue and is the first community gathering area in downtown.

“The PCDC Board awarded this grant to the City of Pflugerville to help them transform an area of downtown into a community gathering place with art and activity for all ages,” PCDC Executive Director Amy Madison said. “They matched the grant with sweat equity from city staff and community volunteers, and the results are pfabulous!”

The community build project dubbed “Plazapalooza” was held April 27 to build out the 6,500-square-foot Main Street Plaza art walk showcasing murals, garden displays and interactive musical instruments. The inaugural project followed a February 12 Pflugerville City Council Resolution that sought to develop an annual community engagement project focused on a “healthy and active community.”

“What makes this Plazapalooza so special, is the spirit of public service that our community groups share by coming together to make this happen,” Pflugerville City Manager Sereniah Breland said. “When we work side-by-side together, it translates to great things for our community. Thanks to PCDC for sharing in this vision to beautify the plaza next to city hall and creating a true community gathering space.”\

City staff preparations and construction of the plaza began April 26 followed by the Plazapalooza community build event on April 27 with local businesses and organizations. The event concluded that day with a block party that hosted food trucks and other activities to celebrate the opening of the new Main Street Plaza.
