The Forney Economic Development Corporation (FEDC) is pleased to announce a reception honoring 25 years of attracting and expanding business in Forney, Texas. The anniversary celebration is open to the public and will occur from 6:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Forney City Hall. The FEDC was established by a community vote in 1994 to dedicate a half cent of local sales tax to fund economic development initiatives in Forney.
When the FEDC was established, Forney was home to approximately 4,600 people. Since then, Forney has grown to a thriving community of over 23,000 people. The FEDC has been instrumental in facilitating the investment of over $650 million for the commercial tax base and the creation of over 1,000 jobs. Major business attractions include the Luminant Power Plant, Steve Silver Furniture Distribution, Goodyear Tire Distribution, Mustang Crossing Shopping Center, Kroger Marketplace, Forney Medical Plaza and downtown revitalization, including Eno’s Pizza Tavern, Latham Bakery, Crumbzz and Groovy’s. In addition to business recruitment, the FEDC has been instrumental in expanding Forney’s commercial infrastructure network along with supporting existing employers and small businesses.
Forney’s investment in economic development has attributed to a more diversified tax base and employment opportunities for residents in the area. In 1994, the City’s total taxable values were approximately $120 million. Today, the City’s taxable values total nearly $2 billion. Due in part to the FEDC’s efforts, Forney is positioned for continued commercial growth and job creation. If you are a business in Forney looking to expand or simply connect to resources within the community, please contact the FEDC at (972) 564-5808.
