Mineola City Manager Mercy L. Rushing has been selected by Texas City Management Association (TCMA) to serve as the Region 5 representative for that organization’s Allies Across Texas Task Force. Rushing was nominated by other East Texas city managers in Region 5.
“I am honored to join this task force that is striving to create an atmosphere of equality and inclusion in public administration,” Rushing said. “I look forward to working with other city managers from across the state to achieve this goal.”
TCMA is an organization of city government professionals which includes city managers and administrators. The association is dedicated to promoting the highest standards of governance, service, leadership, and ethics through education, training and resources while embracing individual and regional diversity for the benefit of its membership and the cities of Texas. TCMA membership comes from ten regions encompassing all of the State of Texas. Region 5 of TCMA is made up of twenty-nine East Texas counties.
The Allies Across Texas Task Force will be working to make recommendations to TCMA on policies, practices and strategies to identify and eliminate disparities in public administration and to encourage appointed and elected officials to recruit underrepresented populations for careers in public administration. The goal of the task force is to connect policy makers and city governments with citizens and communities for better understanding and awareness of the populations that are served.
Mercy Rushing has served as the city manager of Mineola, Texas since 2016, serving previously as assistant city manager, community development and marketing director.
