MEDC Executive Director Appointed to Serve on ECU Women’s Roundtable Board of Directors

Mexia EDC’s Executive Director, JoAnna Shivers, has been appointed to serve on the East Carolina University (ECU) Women’s Roundtable Board of Directors. Shivers is a graduate of ECU with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

The ECU Women’s Roundtable aims to support East Carolina University by creating a culture of giving; building a strong volunteer base of women committed to advancing the university; forming a deeper pool of women capable of assuming leadership roles; building community among women graduates and providing a channel for alumnae to play an active role in the university. Through leadership, service, networking, and philanthropy, the Roundtable recognizes the role women play in shaping the future of the region, the state and the nation. Areas of interest in reviewing potential board members include leadership positions, professional expertise, and achievements and contributions involving the university.

Shivers’s four-year term will begin in July of this year. She stated, “I am honored to be chosen for this role, especially with the record number of applicants that were received this year. Being part of a women’s leadership organization is a privilege, and I hope that I will be able to contribute something significant their initiative. Even though Texas is my home now I am still a proud pirate through and through!”
