February 5, 2022 BOERNE, TX—The Boerne Kendall County Angel Network (BKCAN) in collaboration with the Boerne Kendall County Economic Development Corporation (BKCEDC) is pleased to announce the formation of Kendall County’s first business incubator, Das GreenHaus.
After negotiating a lease with the City of Boerne for the former Public Works building, located at 400 East Blanco Road, Das GreenHaus will occupy the approximately 6300 square foot building upon completion of building renovations to create both open concept workspaces and dedicated offices. “The City of Boerne is proud to be able to partner with the Boerne Kendall County EDC and Kendall County Angel Network as they prepare to launch this first-of-its-kind space in Boerne,” City Manager Ben Thatcher said. “Das GreenHaus will serve as a launching pad of innovation to further provide support with networking, education and capital challenges and help grow our community’s entrepreneurial spirit.”
County Judge, Darrel Lux, added, “Now that the incubator has secured a location for Das GreenHaus with the City of Boerne, I am looking forward to having this project come back before the Commissioners to address potential County funding.”
Das GreenHaus is a 501(c)3 non-profit business incubator that aims to grow Kendall County’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by creating a means of retaining Kendall County talent by providing a place to grow their business in their hometown, as well as a strategy for sustainable growth through entrepreneurship-led economic development (ELED). BKCAN Executive Director, Justin McKenzie explains, “Creating a visible entrepreneurial ecosystem in Boerne and Kendall County will give our talented citizens, and children a place to build their passions. Das GreenHaus gives Boerne a place to share mentorship, ideas, and innovation that will help us reduce Kendall County’s number one export, our talent. Everyone has worked hard to create an ecosystem that will foster Boerne's brightest innovators to create and adapt the future of work here in Kendall County. The BKCAN will be interested in seeing the future alumni of Das Greenhaus and investing in their future success.”
Acting as a conduit for connecting the next generation of entrepreneurs with experienced mentors, Das GreenHaus will create a hub for entrepreneurial activity that transforms Kendall County while preserving the historic character of our community. BISD Superintendent, Dr. Tommy Price states, ““Boerne ISD is excited to partner with Das GreenHaus, which provide space and support for young entrepreneurs from our district. With the rapid population growth our area is experiencing it is imperative that community leaders work together to provide business, growth, mentorship, and job opportunities. Our Incubator Entrepreneurship program has seen lots of success as our students have created and grown many startup businesses that benefit Boerne and Kendall County.”
Das Greenhaus Board member, Kathy Estes, who will oversee operations emphasizes, “Entrepreneurship-led development has been successful in a number of rural Texas communities where business incubators are established. The vision for Das GreenHaus is to be part of the solution to growing our own entrepreneurial ecosystem with businesses that fit within the City, County and Community strategic plan providing livable wage jobs while preserving the natural resources we all hold so dear.”
Das GreenHaus is a separate non-profit entity that partners with local organizations, such as the BKCAN, BKCEDC and BISD, to serve business start-ups in a holistic, sustainable way. For more information, please email info@dasgreenhaus.org.
