The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership
The Woodlands, TX (August 2022) The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership (EDP) attended an official press conference on August 29, 2022, welcoming the Ladies Professional Golf Association’s (LPGA) The Chevron Championship coming to our community next Spring. The Chevron Championship will kick off the season, as the first of five LPGA Majors and will be hosted at The Club at Carlton Woods’ Jack Nicklaus Signature Course on April 20-23, 2023.
The press conference included a panel moderated by Golf Channel commentator and 2007 Champion Morgan Pressel with speakers: Steve Salzman, The Club at Carlton Woodlands General Manager and Chief Operating Officer; Josetta Jones, Chevron Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer; Al Williams, Chevron Vice President of Corporate Affairs; Mollie Marcoux Samaan, LPGA Commissioner; and Ed McEnroe, IMG Senior Vice President.
This world class championship will host top women athletes from across the globe and will also allow amateurs in the sport to join with a 2023 prize purse of over $5 million. Chevron has introduced a new $5,000 stipend to reduce the financial obstacles to participate for all players who miss the cut. As our eighth largest employer in The Woodlands Area, Chevron has committed to giving back $2 million in donations to nonprofit organizations and spotlight foundations and community programs that advance women’s excellence and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
“As the Number 1 City to Live in America, we look forward to revealing our community to the LPGA’s Chevron Championship. We understand the unique position we have to host a Major in our community, and we are certain that our residents and businesses will embrace this opportunity” said Gil Staley, Chief Executive Officer.
