(April 17, 2025) ROCKDALE, Texas – The City of Rockdale City Council approved a $9.2 million contract with Lopez Utility of Houston to replace 40,000 linear feet of water distribution lines in the City.
“This comes to nearly 8 miles of water line replacement,” explained Rockdale Mayor, Ward Roddam. “We are thrilled to partner with Lopez Utility on this critical project. This has been a long time coming and we appreciate our citizens’ patience.”
The construction project, funded by the Texas Water Development Board, Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund program, seeks to replace old cast iron pipes – many of which are over 50 years old and past their service life – with modern PVC pipes.
“A system with new water lines should reduce the number of line breaks in the system,” reported Rockdale City Manager, Tim Kelty. “Many things can cause a water line leak, such as ground temperature. Putting new PVC pipes in the ground will reduce our water loss and the City having to issue boil water notices.”
Construction is scheduled to start in June 2025 and be complete around January 2027.
