Organization

Greater:SATX

Sarah has served as Chief Economic Development Officer for greater:SATX since 2022 and has played a transformative role in advancing the organization’s regional impact through its All In regional economic development strategy. Her appointment follows a comprehensive and deliberate search process led by the Executive Committee.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Carabias Rush as our next CEO,” said Randy Smith, Chair of the greater:SATX Executive Committee and CEO of Weston Urban. “Sarah has been instrumental in elevating our regional competitiveness, and her vision and leadership will be essential as we continue building upon that momentum through our next five-year strategy.”

Since joining greater:SATX, Carabias Rush has led a significant evolution in the organization’s lead generation and business attraction strategy—one that has produced record-setting results. Over the past two years, projected job creation across the region has grown by nearly 200%, and capital investment has increased by more than 400%.

greater:SATX has secured 85 projects since 2022, representing over $5.9 billion in capital investment and nearly 14,000 new jobs for the San Antonio region. Companies such as JCB, Guidehouse, beyondGREEN Biotech, Solidia Technologies, Alimentos Pacificos, and Simwon are among those choosing to invest in San Antonio’s future.

"What truly excites me is what our results represent: opportunity,” said Sarah Carabias Rush, incoming CEO of greater:SATX. “I’m honored to lead this organization at such a pivotal time, and I’m energized by the partnerships that fuel our regional growth. Our region is delivering what companies need to thrive and the job opportunities that provide pathways to economic mobility for San Antonians. I look forward to leading with regional collaboration and purpose.”

Fueled by aligned efforts to advance the regional economy, San Antonio is showing strong results across multiple indicators. The region led Texas in job creation in 2024 and ranked third nationally. San Antonio is seeing meaningful gains in educational attainment, outpacing peer metros in that growth. San Antonio is also sending more students to college than any other Texas metro and ranks among the top U.S. markets for wage growth.

Hope Andrade, Co-Founder and Partner of Go Rio San Antonio River Cruises, former Texas Secretary of State, and greater:SATX Executive Committee member, served as Interim CEO throughout the leadership transition.

“On behalf of the entire Executive Committee, I am excited to see Sarah assume this role and continue to create greater impact for San Antonians,” said Andrade. “Having spent some time with the team and integrating into the day-to-day, I return to my role as a member of the Executive Committee feeling so appreciative of the team and confident in how greater:SATX will continue to deliver on its job-creating mission.”

As the organization looks ahead, the development of the next five-year regional strategy is well underway. Guided by a strategic planning committee and informed by local employers, educators, industry leaders, and community partners, greater:SATX is committed to shaping a more competitive, resilient, and inclusive regional economy through 2030 and beyond.
