Decatur EDC Announces Leigh Ferguson as New Director of Business Development

The Decatur Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce the hiring of Leigh Ferguson as its new Director of Business Development.

Ferguson brings a strong background in public affairs, municipal relations, economic development, and strategic communications to the organization. Her professional experience includes leadership roles with major utility and environmental services companies, as well as service within the Texas Legislature.

Most recently, Ferguson served as Manager of Public Affairs for Atmos Energy, where she managed relationships with cities, counties, elected officials, and community organizations across North Texas. Prior to that, she spent nearly six years with Republic Services managing municipal contracts and community partnerships throughout the region.

“Leigh’s background in relationship-building, public engagement, and strategic problem-solving makes her an outstanding addition to our team,” said Matt Runnels, Executive Director of the Decatur EDC. “Her experience working with both public and private sector partners will help continue the momentum of business recruitment, retention, and expansion efforts in Decatur.”

Ferguson recently completed the Basic Economic Development Course in March 2026 and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from University of Texas at Arlington. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.

In her role, Ferguson will support business attraction, workforce and community partnerships, and existing industry engagement initiatives for the Decatur EDC.
