CEDAR HILL, TX (August 12, 2026) – The City of Cedar Hill is inviting residents, visitors, and prospective development partners to experience the potential of a key Historic Downtown property during a community celebration on Saturday, August 22.
The 2.68-acre site, known as the Phillips Property, has been transformed into a vibrant interim park for the community to enjoy while the City and Economic Development Corporation seek the right development partner for the property’s long-term future. The temporary activation also helps showcase the site’s potential for permanent development.

Cedar Hill Farmers Market from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Owned by the Cedar Hill Economic Development Corporation, the property will serve as a temporary community gathering space while a permanent mixed-use development featuring restaurants, retail, entertainment, open space, or other complementary uses comes to fruition.
The activation takes a forward-thinking approach to economic development by putting the property to work today while building visibility, generating activity, and helping prospective partners envision what the site could become.
“This is an opportunity to show both the community and potential developers what this site can contribute to the future of Downtown Cedar Hill,” said Henry Florsheim, Director of Economic Development. “We are creating energy and value at the site today while continuing to pursue the right partner and a permanent development that reflects the community’s vision for downtown.”
The public is invited to celebrate the opening of the interim park on Saturday, August 22, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at 104 S. Broad Street. The free, family-friendly event will feature coffee, mimosas, food trucks, live music from Maya Piata and Band, and a community toast to the future of the property.
The celebration will also feature the debut of a colorful interactive asphalt mural, new shade structures, outdoor seating, and a public art installation featuring more than 450 feet of banners. The Cedar Hill Farmers Market, typically held at another nearby location in Historic Downtown, will move to the Phillips Property for the special event and continue until 1:00 p.m.
The event will offer a firsthand look at the property’s ability to support markets, community celebrations, pop-ups, and other downtown experiences.
The activation continues the work of the Heart of the Hill Downtown Action Plan, adopted in early 2026 following nearly a year of input from residents, businesses, and community stakeholders.
The plan identifies the Phillips Property as one of Historic Downtown Cedar Hill’s most significant development opportunities. Positioned in the heart of downtown, the site has the potential to anchor new activity and support a walkable mixed-use development that brings together dining, shopping, entertainment, recreation, and inviting public space.
Cedar Hill Economic Development is currently seeking a development partner to bring that long-term vision to life through a permanent project that expands the downtown experience and strengthens the Phillips Property as both a community and economic anchor.
