SEDCO offers no-cost training for Sherman manufacturing and industrial employees

Sherman, Texas - Grayson College Center for Workplace Learning and Sherman Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) have partnered to offer no-cost training to employees of Sherman-based, Type A businesses. Twelve different courses are available. Training topics include OSHA training, basic lifesaving, interpersonal and communication skills, Excel, and Reasonable Suspicion.

“An educated and well-trained workforce is key to Sherman’s economic health, and that’s why SEDCO maintains strong ties to Grayson College and its Center for Workplace Learning,” said Kent Sharp, President of the Sherman Economic Development Corporation. “Offering these short-course trainings for employees of Type A businesses in Sherman is just another way SEDCO is working to keep and attract Sherman businesses.”

“We pride ourselves on meeting the training needs of employers in Grayson and Fannin counties,” explained Dr. Djuna Forrester, Executive Director of Grayson College’s Center for Workplace Learning. “Together, SEDCO and Grayson College, are making it easier for employers to get essential training completed, increase employee retention and improve their bottom line.”

Training courses are available to employees of Type A industries. Employers with 49 employees or fewer can receive training valued at $1,500 total; those with 50 to 100 employees are eligible for training valued at $2,500 total; and employers with more than 100 employees can enroll in training valued at up to $5,000 total. The training is available to full-time employees only.

Employers interested in registering employees for the trainings should check their inbox for information from SEDCO and/or contact Kate Corder, Grayson College Center for Workplace Learning Director of Continuing Education at corderk@grayson.edu for the complete course schedule and registration code. Class start dates begin as soon as February 15. Employers seeking other types of training or who may not be eligible for the SEDCO-funded training are encouraged to contact Grayson College’s Center for Workplace Learning at 903.463.8765.
